Retracing places and memories of the First World War on a long journey from the Tonale Pass to the Marmolada
Retracing places and memories of the First World War along the former military roads, walkways, trenches and fortifications, which today bear testimony to the millions of deaths of the immense tragedy of the Great War. The long journey from the Passo del Tonale to the Marmolada takes at least a month.
Given the mostly alpine nature of the area, summer is the most appropriate season for walking here. The best time is between 20 June and 20 September, when all the refuges along the way are open.
Details of the path and individual sections can be found on the website. In addition to advice on preparation for crossing places that require the use of crampons or other rope accessories, details of easier and more accessible itineraries can also be found here. Even for short family trips.
